Mobile Network Engineering

AVI Engineering has designed sites for mobile coverage for over 20 years. From 2G all the way to 5G. From microcells on light poles to large macro cells on top of mountains.

Our current focus on in-building mobile coverage design helps our customers achieve new or improved mobile reception.

From individual homes, businesses, apartment complexes, or shopping centres, if you are experiencing mobile reception issues then AVI Engineering can assess the causes and provide the best solution.

Essential Coverage

Today, mobile connectivity is essential in our personal and professional lives.

From the time we leave our home, mobile consumers expect continuous coverage in their cars, on the train, at the airports, shopping centres, office towers and apartments. Entering or leaving a building, even through an underground basement parking lot, and losing mobile service is no longer acceptable.

Whether it’s that important phone call, that urgent email, that essential Zoom meeting, mobile coverage is essential to our ‘always connected’ lifestyle.

Coverage Problems

The less coverage available the more frustrated you will become. That’s everyone’s experience.

With bad in-building coverage expect:

  • angry tenants
  • frustrated customers
  • inefficient employees
  • missed sales opportunities
  • reduced building valuation

As a building owner or manager, it isn’t your fault that your building has no coverage. However, it is your problem to try and solve. So what’s next?

There are several steps in the process to solve in building mobile coverage problems. See below how AVI Engineering can help you get started.

In-Building Coverage Solutions

AVI Engineering has more than 20 years of experience helping customers achieve great in-building mobile coverage.

The first step we undertake is to perform a comprehensive site survey.

Our engineers will undertake a comprehensive mobile walk test  to benchmark the current mobile network signals available.

Our engineers will simultaneously evaluate the building structure noting things such as the ceiling heights, wall materials, glass properties,  available space for equipment and even potential cable pathways.

Our engineers will then report on the current state of mobile coverage inside your building and determine which of the mobile network operator signals are working well and which need improvement.

The second step is to determine a high level solution against a preliminary budget. This solution can range from low-powered to high-powered repeaters to full distributed antenna systems (DAS). These solutions can either be passive or active solutions.

A high level solution is vital to determine a solution direction as network operators may not pay for the coverage enhancement. However, there will be opportunities, if designed right, for carriers to sign up to your new in-building coverage solution (at an agreed fee of course) providing you with a potential ongoing revenue stream.

The third step is our engineers  will take all the survey data results and provide a comprehensive in-building coverage design solution that will meet all industry design guidelines and mobile carrier specifications.

AVI Engineering will make recommendations of the  preferred hardware vendor for the repeater or DAS solution.

The forth step is to supply and install the mobile coverage solution in the building. AVI Engineering will oversea the end-to-end supply, installation, testing, commissioning and reporting of the in-building solution with the chosen vendor.

The final step of any in-building solution is to integrate the approved mobile network carrier(s) onto the system and undertake the necessary checks and walk testing to confirm your new coverage.

EME Site Analysis

AVI Engineering provides independent electromagnetic emission (EME) modelling and reporting for your site.

If you require EME checks and reports for a single site or a program rollout, our engineers can work together with your designers, planners and  property consultants to achieve a solutions that satisfies all parties.

As a property owner or developer, if you have any EME concerns over nearby antennas you suspect are effecting your space, then we can make the appropriate assessment and onsite measurement to determine if there is a risk or not and what remedial actions are required.
